Globacom to make huge internet band with available to covers FUT MINNA both campuses

Globacom Nigeria Limited has expressed its readiness to lay Fiber Optic Cables in the premises of the University as a precursor towards attaining huge internet bandwidth capacity by the institution that is capable of covering Gidan Kwano and Bosso campuses.

This was made known by the company’s Head, Broad Access, Mr. Fatai Alugo during an interactive meeting with the University Management on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the VC’s Conference Room, Main Campus.

“The future of education in Nigeria would be ICT driven, that is why the company is committed to bringing huge Internet bandwidth capacity to the University, because if you don’t need it now you will need it later.” Mr. Alugo stated.

He informed the Management that though, it costs N25 million to lay about 7 to 8 kilometers of Fiber Optic Cables, that the company would do the laying at no cost to the University and that the institution would have to only pay for the bandwidth.

Mr. Alugo who said that the quantum of work would span through 3½ months if they are to ensure quality job requested for a letter of intent from the University as a right of way to enable the company expedite action on the work while legal documentations are ongoing.

He further stated that the telecommunication giant came into Nigeria with 6.4 terabytes; a massive capacity that can cover the whole of West African sub-region at the cost of $1billion and could last for more than 10 years without being exhausted.

In his response, the Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, expressed satisfaction with the company’s terms and conditions especially the offer, as it would enhance the institution’s drive towards attaining high ICT capacity and race for academic excellence.
