Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Network tuture students on enterprenureship skills

In view of the need to equip students with requisite skills needed to develop vision, innovation and dynamism required in the contemporary business world driven by entrepreneurship, the Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) Network recently tutored students of the institution on the nitty-gritty of entrepreneurship and business development skills.

The 1-Day seminar took place on Tuesday, June 23, 2015 at the PTDF Lecture Theatre, Chemical Engineering Complex, School of Engineering & Engineering Technology, Main Campus.

Speaking at the event, Mr. Paul Swider stated that expansion of scope, managerial, technological and infrastructural problems are some of the challenges affecting the growth of Small and Medium Enterprises (SME) in developing countries.

Mr. Swider tasked the students to be part of YALI Network Initiative, adding that the platform is committed to the training of young African leaders with skills and connections needed to foster change in their communities and countries.

Delivering his address at the event, the Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Musbau Adewumi Akanji, FNSBMB, who was represented by the DVC (Admin.), Prof. Suleiman Sadiku commended the YALI Network team for coming to the institution to train students on entrepreneurship skills.

Prof. Akanji said the University is committed to the training of skilled and innovative work-force that would transform Nigeria’s natural resources into goods and services driven by entrepreneurship and ICT with the aim of making its graduate job creators and not job seekers.

The VC urged students at the event to share business ideas with staff and students; this according to him would help in the areas of proper business execution and control.

He further advised students at the event to join the YALI Network Initiative.

In her vote of thanks, the Director, WASCAL CC & ALU, Dr. Appolonia Okhimamhe who facilitated the training to the University thanked YALI instructors for having accepted to come, help tap into the potentials of the youths and getting them to develop their ideas into bankable ventures. She also encouraged and urged the youths not to rely on government jobs and to get enrolled in the YALI initiative.

The Young African Leaders Initiative (YALI) was launched by US President Barack Obama in 2010 to support young African leaders as they spur growth and prosperity, strengthen democratic governance, and enhance peace and security across Africa.
